Huskies Defeat Monks in Season Opener

GORHAM, Maine - Sophomore Tom Murray (Bangor, Maine) fired an even par 71 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 299-335, season-opening win over the Saint Joseph's College Monks Friday afternoon at the Gorham Country Club.

Murray made the turn at 1-over par (36) before going 1-under par on the back nine to finish at even par.  Senior John Gagliano (Windham, Maine) was one shot back with a career best 72.  Junior Andrew Richards (South Portland, Maine) had a 74 in his first collegiate event.  Junior Jordan Rouillard (Waterford, N.Y./Gray New Gloucester) completed the Huskies' four-man team score with an 82.

Sophomore Mike Caron (Gorham, Maine) was the low man for the Monks finishing with a 2-over 73. Freshman Brandon Levesque carded an 83 in his inaugural college match.

Both teams will be back in action on September 6-7 when they participate in the Bowdoin College Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club.
