GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College placed eighth with a 682 (339-343) score in the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club on Sunday and Monday. Sophomore Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) led the Monks with a 150 (73-77) and finished in a tie for seventh overall.
With a 598 (299-299) score, Endicott College edged Southern Maine, which posted a 601 (302-299) to win the tournament. UMass.-Dartmouth (608, 311-297), Castleton State College (614, 314-300), Husson University (620, 311-309), University of New England (638, 320-318), Emmanuel College (657, 330-327) and Maine-Farmington (690, 350-340) also competed in the tourney.
Endicott's Austin Teal earned medalist honors with a 144 (72-72), one stroke ahead of Castleton's Zach Temple (73-72) and Husson's Greg Martin (76-69).
For Saint Joseph's, freshman Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) posted a 174 (83-91) and finished in a tie for 36th, junior Jason Riley (Dedham, Mass.) was tied for 38th (178, 91-87), sophomore John Marcous (Turner, Maine) placed 44th (182, 92-90) and senior David Kapelson (Litchfield, N.H.) finished 45th (188, 99-89).
Saint Joseph's resumes play in the GNAC Championship at Ponkapoag Golf Club in Canton, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 18th.
