Monks Begin Campaign with Runner-up Effort in USM Tri-Match

GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College opened the 2016 fall season with a second-place finish in a tri-match with University of Southern Maine and Maine-Farmington at the Gorham Country Club on Thursday afternoon. The Monks carded a 299, six strokes off the winning effort by the Huskies (293) and nine strokes better than the third-place Beavers.

Saint Joseph's was led by sophomore Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus), who shot a career-best 73, just two over par, and finished in a tie for second overall. Sophomore Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) posted a 74, senior Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) both carded a 76, and junior Brandon Labrecque (Gorham, Maine) chipped in with an 80.

Freshman Tyler Johnson (Windham, Maine) made his collegiate debut and shot an 82 in the Monks' season opener.

USM junior Grayson Waterman posted a one-over-par 72 to claim medalist honors and headlined a Huskies quintet that saw each individual shoot a 75 or better.

Saint Joseph's returns to play next Tuesday when the Monks host the 14th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort. Opening tee time is slated for 11:00 AM.
