GNAC Golf Postseason Awards Released

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Golf postseason honors have been released and four Saint Joseph's College individuals have earned accolades.

Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92 has been chosen as the GNAC Coach of the Year – by vote of his peers – while senior Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) and sophomores Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) and Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine) collected All-Conference honors by virtue of their top-five finishes in the GNAC Championship, hosted by Southern Maine at the Gorham Country Club on October 15th and 16th.

In addition, the Monks garnered GNAC Sportsmanship Team honors, an award also voted on by conference head coaches.

Smyth earns his first Golf Coach of the Year accolade after leading the Monks to the program's first-ever GNAC Championship this fall. Under his watch, Saint Joseph's shot a 607 (301-306) to edge out Rhode Island College (610) and Southern Maine (610) for the conference crown and subsequent automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Tournament, which will be played at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida May 16 – 19, 2017.

Caron collects the first All-Conference honor of his collegiate career after finishing in a tie for second with a 148 (73-75) card. Letourneau and Hachey finished in a tie for fourth with 150 scores and also earned their first All-GNAC accolades with the top-five efforts.

Prior to this fall, the Monks had not placed higher than fourth – and never shot lower than a 632 score - in the GNAC Championship.
