USM Wins Queenan Memorial, Monks Place Second

CASCO, Maine – University of Southern Maine posted a 315 team card to eclipse a nine-team field at the 16th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at the Point Sebago Golf Resort on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's finished second with a 318 card while University of New England was third (327), Husson's 'B' squad finished fourth (330), and Maine Maritime Academy rounded out the top five with a 331 team card.

Thomas College (333), UMaine-Farmington (358), and Emmanuel College (410) also competed in this year's event. Gordon College participated but did not score as a team.

UNE's Mike Rich claimed Medalist honors with a two-over-par 74 score, one stroke ahead of Saint Joseph's senior Cam Letourneau (Hebron, Maine).

For the Monks, senior Adam Hachey (Winthrop, Maine) shot a 77, senior Adam Batchelder (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) posted an 82, and juniors Tyler Johnson (Windham, Maine) and Brendan Donovan (Auburn, Maine) rounded out the SJC participants with 84 scores.

The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.

Saint Joseph's will resume play this weekend with an appearance in the Bowdoin Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at the Brunswick Country Club.
