RUMFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College alpine skiing teams competed in a slalom race at Black Mountain on Saturday in what was the first event in the history of the program.
MEN: RACE ONE RESULTS l RACE TWO RESULTS
In the first race, freshman Burke Cornish (Windham, Maine) finished 16th with a combined 1:56.05 time (56.80, 59.25) and senior Eryk Bean (Londonderry, N.H.) placed 17th with a 1:57.36 total time (1:00.60, 56.76).
In the second race, Cornish was 21st with a 1:53.88 effort (56.36, 57.52) and Bean placed 22nd with a 2:02.22 total time (50.61, 1:1.61).
WOMEN: RACE ONE RESULTS l RACE TWO RESULTS
In the opening event, Sarah Hotchkiss (New Durham, N.H.) posted a 2:03.74 (1:00.71, 1:03.03) composite time and finished 17th overall, Brianna Cobb (Greenville, Maine) placed 19th with a 2:07.33 (1:02.35, 1:04.98) effort, and Lexzi Summers (West Stockbridge, Mass.) was 23rd with a 2:29.04 (1:19.49, 1:09.55) performance.
In the closing race, Hotchkiss finished 21st with 2:01.04 (55.59, 1:05.55) time while Summers did not finish the first run and posted a 1:15.49 time in the second run.
The alpine ski teams, led by first-year Head Coach Margot Cosentino and Assistant Coach Phoebe Chamberlin, are competing as club programs this winter and will transition to varsity status next season. The programs were added to the list of Saint Joseph's athletics teams last summer.
