NEW HAVEN, CT - JR Elbie
Murphy (Loudonville, NY) had a game-high 30 points
in Saturday's 85-71 victory at GNAC foe Albertus Magnus College -
giving him 1,003 points for his career. Murphy is the 29th player
in Monks history to reach the milestone. With the win, the Monks
are now 6-3 in GNAC play and 8-7 overall while Albertus Magnus
falls to 1-8 in the GNAC and 1-15 overall.
The AMC Falcons led the Monks until JR Scot
Vachon (Schenectady, NY) hit a jump shot to put
the Royal Blue up by one point at the 10 minute mark of the first
half. Three-pointers by both Murphy and FY Eric
Friend (Portland, ME) and a 5-6 free-throw
shooting performance in the final 2 minutes of the half increased
the Monk lead to 10 points going into the break, 48-38.
The Falcons clawed their way back into the game and tied the Monks,
66-66, with 8 minutes left to play. St. Joe's went on to outscore
the host team 19-5 the rest of the game to secure the 85-71
victory. Elbie Murphy scored 10
points during the SJC run and sank a three-pointer from the top of
the key at the two minute mark to pass the 1,000 point barrier.
For St. Joe's, SO Ray Eatmon
(Huntington, NY) netted 10 points, 10 boards, 4 assists, 3 blocked
shots and 2 steals and Murphy added 9 rebounds, 4
steals and 3 blocked shots to cap his memorable achievement in the
Monks victory. Murphy made 10 of 17 field goal
attempts in the game, including a 4-5 effort from beyond the arc.
FY Chris Davis (New York, NY)
came off the bench to add 9 points.
Four AMC players reached double figures with JR Bobby Leonzo (East
Haven, CT) and JR Adam Hovan (Ansonia, CT) each posting
double-doubles in the game.
The Monks outshot the Falcons at the charity stripe, 74% (17-23) to
55% (6-11) in the contest.
St. Joe's will travel to Lewiston, ME to take on the Bates College
Bobcats on Tuesday, 1/29, at 7:00 PM.
