Petzy Joins Exclusive 1,000-Point Club

STANDISH, ME – Senior guard Chris Petzy (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) became the 35th player in SJC men's basketball history to surpass the 1,000-point mark in a 70-58 victory over Husson University at the Alfond Center on Wednesday night.

Petzy entered the contest needing just eight points to eclipse the career landmark and hit 1,000 on the dot when he made a three-pointer with 6:20 remaining in the first half. Classmate Tom Ray (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play. Petzy went on to net a game-high 31 points off a 10-14 shooting effort from the field, including a 5-7 performance from downtown, in the win over the Eagles.

The second-year captain now has 1,023 points in 85 career contests, 37 of which were starts. He has missed just two games during his three-plus seasons and currently ranks second in program history in three-point success (42.8%), fourth in three-pointers made (149), and fifth in threes attempted (348).

Petzy is off to an outstanding start to his senior season and currently leads the Monks in scoring (22.0 PPG), field goal percentage (50%), field goals made (28) and three-pointers made (13). He also ranks second on the squad with 5.0 rebounds per game and has notched a pair of 30-point performances through four games this year.

He is the ninth Saint Joseph's hoopster over the last 14 seasons to reach the 1,000-point plateau and his 31 points scored on the night where he reached the milestone is the most during this stretch.

Off to a 4-0 start, St. Joe's will kick off the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) portion of its schedule when the team hosts Albertus Magnus College, the GNAC Preseason Poll favorite, on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
