Men's Basketball Edged by Becker College, 72-69

LEICESTER, MA – Becker College fended off a second half surge by Saint Joseph's College, holding on for a 72-69 victory in non-conference men's basketball action this afternoon.

Becker didn't trail the entire game, despite blowing a 12 point lead. With the Hawks in front 53-50 late second half Matt Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) hit a three pointer tying the game for the first time since 00:36 into the game.  That would be as close as the Monks could get as Becker held on for their fourth straight victory.

The win lifts the Hawks to 6-3 on the season. Becker returns to action on Thursday, January 5th, when they host Albertus Magnus at 3 p.m.

Becker senior Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) led all scorers with 22 points.  Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) added 17 points, while pulling down a game high eight boards.  Freshman center Jerome Cohen (Boston, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, while classmate Yahmad Rountree (Waterbury, Conn.) took advantage of his first collegiate start, scoring 12 points.

The Monks were led by senior Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, N.Y.) who scored a team high 21 points. Matt Medeiros and Chris Petzy (Kensington, N.H.) each nailed three-three pointers in the second half, finishing with 14 and 13 points respectively.

The loss drops the Monks to 6-3 on the season. Saint Joseph's will try to end their two game losing streak when they travel to Emmanuel College on Saturday, January 7th at 1p.m.
