STANDISH, ME – Senior forward Nicholas Jobin (Westbrook, Maine) became the 37th player in the 44-year history of the Saint Joseph's College men's basketball program to reach the 1,000-point milestone in an 81-70 win over conference-rival Lasell College at the Harold AlfondHarold Alfond Center on Thursday evening.
Jobin started the night 29 points shy of the four-digit mark and nailed 1,000 on the dot when he converted a conventional three-point play with 5:05 remaining in the second half. The senior post player ended the game with a total of 31 points with 14 rebounds and went 11-12 from the free throw line to help the Monks improve to 8-8 overall and 7-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Jobin set new career-highs in points and free throws made and tied his personal-best totals in field goal attempts (19) and free throw attempts in the important conference win.
A second-year starter, Jobin currently has 1,002 points over 94 career games – a tally that includes 51 starts. He sports a 52.9% (389-735) field goal percentage with 463 rebounds and has averaged 10.7 points per game over three-plus seasons.
Jobin leads the Monks in a variety of statistical categories this season, including scoring (18.9 PPG), rebounding (8.4 RPG), field goal percentage (56.1%), field goals made (120) and free throws made (61). He currently leads the GNAC in field goals made, ranks fourth in the conference in minutes per game (34.6), rebounds (134) and points, and is fifth in FG%, rebounds per game and points per game.
He is the ninth player to join the SJC 1,000-Point Club during the tenure of Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99, who is currently in his 11th year at the helm for the Monks. Jobin joins Medeiros as well as former teammates Tyler Kelley '11, Zach O'Brien '12 and Chris Petzy '12 on the short list of players who have reached the prestigious plateau at Saint Joseph's College.
No player in the last 16 seasons entered the game in which he netted his 1,000th career point needing more points (29) than Jobin. The previous high during this window was held by current Assistant Coach Elbie Murphy '09, who required 27 points to reach the mark and dropped 30 versus Albertus Magnus College on January 26th, 2008. Jobin also ties Petzy – who poured in 31 versus Husson on November 30th, 2011 - for the most points scored in a contest in which the player in question reached the 1,000-point plateau.
Saint Joseph's is set to host GNAC-rival Norwich University on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
