BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 86-66 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
With a win in their final game of 2015, the Polar Bears improve to 6-3. The Monks fall to 3-7 with the loss.
Game Highlights
- After both teams shook off the rust to start the contest, the Monks rode the hot shooting of Craig Luschenat and Jake Downing to build a seven point lead, 24-17, midway through the opening frame
- Saint Joseph's knocked down seven three-pointers in the first half, but Bowdoin was able to stem the tide thanks to a edge in rebounding
- The Polar Bears rolled off a 6-2 run in the final 2:45 to deadlock the contest at 35 heading into intermission
- Bowdoin took command early in the second half as Lucas Hausman shook off first-half foul trouble to spark a 9-0 run to open the second period
- The Polar Bears never trailed from there, knocking down 59% of their shots in the second stanza and getting 13 points each from Hausman and Simonds in the frame
- Bowdoin led by as many as 27 points en route to the 20-point victory
By The Numbers
- Simonds paced the Polar Bears with a game-high 20 points on 8-14 shooting, including 2-3 from three-point range
- Hausman played only eight minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, but finished with 17 while Matt Palecki and Liam Farley had 11 each for Bowdoin
- Tim Ahn had a team-high seven assists for Bowdoin
- Saint Joseph's was led by 15 points from Andrew Ruffen. John Crawley had 14 while Quinn Richardson-Newton had 13 for the visitors
- Bowdoin ended at 55% shooting for the game while Saint Joseph's connected on 47%
- The Polar Bears held a 36-22 edge in rebounding and converted 20 Monk turnovers into 31 points
