STANDISH, Maine - The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph's College junior guard Darian Berry (Rochester, N.H.) has been selected as Co-Player of the Week.
Berry averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 58.1% (18-31) from the floor, 64.7% (11-17) from three-point distance, and 83.3% (5-6) from the FT line in a 2-0 conference week for the Monks. The junior guard scored a career-high 30 points off a 7-10 three-point shooting performance in an 84-68 win over Norwich University on Saturday.
Berry completed his junior season leading the Monks in scoring (17.0 PPG), points (442), field goals made (162) and attempted (344), three-pointers made (79), attempted (190) and percentage (41.6%), rebounding (5.7 RPG), and total rebounds (148).
The junior guard shares the weekly accolade with UMaine-Farmington sophomore guard Billy Ruby (Gorham, Maine), who averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Beavers.
Saint Joseph's jumped up to the #2 slot in the MMBCWA weekly rankings with a pair of first-place votes and 21 points overall. Bowdoin College (15-8) remains atop the state leaderboard with four first-place votes and 28 points while Husson University (16), Bates College (11), and UMF (6) round out the top five in the coaches poll.
The Monks' 2018 season came to a close on Tuesday evening with a hard fought 69-65 conference tournament setback at the hands of Suffolk University. St. Joe's completed the season with a 16-10 overall record.
