STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College junior guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Player of the Week for his efforts in a pair of games last week.
In a 1-1 week for the Monks, Casale averaged 23.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists while shooting 52.9% (18-34 FG, 3-11 3PT, 7-10 FT) from the floor. The gaudy weekly stat line was highlighted by a 31-point, 19-rebound, seven-assist outburst on Saturday in a 90-83 non-conference victory over Husson. In the win, he shot 12-of-19 from the floor and had 14 of the 19 caroms in the first half. He also had 15 points (6-15 FG, 1-5 3PT), 11 boards and seven assists across 27 minutes in an 84-74 setback versus University of New England on Wednesday.
In three games this season, Casale is averaging 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 51.9% (27-52) from the field. He has registered a double-double in two of the Monks' three games this season and has notched 15 double-doubles in his career overall.
Casale shares the MMBCWA weekly award with Colby College senior guard Sam Jefferson (Newton, Mass.), who averaged 24 points over three games, including a 35-point performance Friday against Gordon, last week.
The 2019 Maine State Player of the Year and First Team All-GNAC honoree has now garnered nine weekly conference honors and eight MMBCWA weekly accolades during his career.
Saint Joseph's (1-2) will play at UMaine-Farmington tonight at 7:30 PM.
