Saint Joseph’s Defeats Thomas, 17-2

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-8, 3-4 NAC) toppled Thomas College (3-8, 2-5 NAC), 17-2, in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Seven different Saint Joseph's players scored and the Monks tied the program's single-game shots record with 73 attempts (first recorded versus Maine-Farmington 4/21/10) in a victory which saw the hosts open play with 15 unanswered goals.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's featured three netminders in the victory, as junior Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) stopped all three shots he faced in the first half, junior Wyatt Porter (Pittsfield, Mass.) made two saves in 24:57 minutes, and freshman Zachary Remillard (Manchester, N.H.) made one stop in 5:03 between the pipes.

Thomas junior goalie Connor Lamberton (Shohola, Pa.) faced 34 shots and stopped 17 while logging all 60 minutes in net.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) netted four goals with two assists
  • Sophomore Tyler Retalic (Framingham, Mass.) scored four goals with three ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Senior Mark LaPierre (Wayland, Mass.) tallied three goals and an assist
  • Junior Joe O'Reilly (Suffern, N.Y.) registered two goals, five assists, and three ground balls
  • Junior Devin Fitzpatrick (Malden, Mass.) added two goals and a pair of ground balls
  • Freshman Shane Fors (Gales Ferry, Conn.) won 17 of 21 face-off attempts and tied the program record with 15 ground balls (first recorded by Elliot LaMarre '11 versus Salem State 3/5/11)
  • Sophomore Raymond Emery (Abington, Mass.) corralled six ground balls with two caused turnovers

LEADERS – THOMAS:

  • Junior Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vt.) netted both of the Terriers' goals with four face-off wins, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Junior Conner Blair (North Hartland, Vt.) picked up 11 ground balls with two caused turnovers
  • Senior Alex Lawson (Hockessin, Del.) added three ground balls and notched five caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 6-2 all-time versus Thomas College and has now defeated the Terriers in six-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2010 campaign.

NEXT!

Both teams are back in action Saturday, when Saint Joseph's wraps up the regular season with a conference contest at Mount Ida College at 1:00 PM. Thomas also plays Saturday when the Terriers kick off North Atlantic Conference Tournament play with a quarterfinal contest at Lyndon State College at 3:00 PM.
