Monks & Saints Play to Scoreless Stalemate

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (4-4-2, 1-1-1 GNAC) and Emmanuel College (4-3-1, 2-0-1 GNAC) dueled to a scoreless tie in a GNAC Men's Soccer match on Saturday at Westerlea Way Field.

The Monks outshot the Saints by a 23-10 margin and held a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal in the conference stalemate. SJC keeper Nick Campasano '12 (Goffstown, NH), who notched his third shutout of the year, registered three saves while his counterpart Carlos Perez '11 (Boca Raton, FL) made nine stops for the visitors.  

Jack LaFreniere '13 (Alton, NH) notched six shots while teammate Mike Sanfilippo '12 (Walpole, MA) had five shots, two on target, for the Monks. Kevin Shirley '13 (Madison, CT) had four shots for the Saints.

The scoreless tie is the 10th in SJC Men's Soccer history and the first since St. Joe's and Maine Maritime Academy locked heads for 110 minutes of scoreless play on October 5th, 2008.

St. Joe's now holds a 3-0-1 record against Emmanuel in the history of the matchup between the conference rivals.

St. Joe's will next play at Rivier College in a GNAC contest on Saturday, October 2nd at 1:00 PM. Emmanuel will host Mitchell College on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
