Lyons Top Monks, 2-0

Lyons Top Monks, 2-0

STANDISH, ME – Wheaton College (10-5-2, 3-2 NEWMAC) topped Saint Joseph's (6-10-2, 3-5-1 GNAC), 2-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Sunday afternoon. Monks netminder Nick Campasano '12 (Goffstown, NH) made a career-high 16 saves in the loss.

Campasano's effort in goal kept the Monks in the game against the Lyons, who were ranked sixth in last week's NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com New England Region poll. Wheaton outshot the Monks by a 39-12 margin and received goals from Howard Manly '13 (Ayer, MA) and Adam Sholi '14 (Sandwich, MA) in the victory.

Manly opened the game scoring in the 39th minute with a header-goal off a throw in and Sholi scored from close proximity off a Chris Thomas '12 (Cumberland, ME) pass in the 67th minute to account for the Lyons' offensive output.

Prior to kickoff, Saint Joseph's paid tribute to the team's five seniors: Joe Happnie (Rockland, MA), Eamonn Harrigan (Caribou, ME), Banak Thiwat (Cape Elizabeth, ME), Brandon Noltkamper (Bath, ME) and Paul Robins (Cornwall, England).

The loss caps the 2010 regular season for St. Joe's, which has earned a spot in the GNAC Tournament for the fourth time in as many seasons as a league member. The #7 Monks will play at #2 Albertus Magnus College next Saturday in a GNAC quarterfinal contest, kickoff time TBD.

Wheaton will cap its regular season with a road contest against conference foe MIT on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
