STANDISH, ME – Senior midfielder Kyle Shangraw (Westbrook, Maine) scored for the third-consecutive game to help Saint Joseph's College (7-2-1, 3-0-0 GNAC) defeat reigning GNAC Champion Albertus Magnus College (1-7-0, 0-3-0 GNAC), 2-1, at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Monks extend their winning streak to a program-record seven games.

All the scoring took place in the first half and Saint Joseph's struck first when freshman forward Yanni Rakis (Belfast, Maine) scored off a Jason Wade (South Hampton, N.H.) pass just 1:36 into the contest. A long attempt by Wade found the foot of Rakis, who kicked a shot off the crossbar, collected his own rebound, and tapped the ball into the net to put the Falcons on their heels early.

The Monks' 1-0 lead was nullified just over 33 minutes later when freshman forward Erik Tomin (Hamden, Conn.) netted an unassisted marker with 9:58 remaining in the first half.

Saint Joseph's responded just 1:35 later when Shangraw headed in his conference-leading eighth goal of the season. Senior back Dan McIntyre (Sparta, N.J.) took a free kick from about 35 yards out and placed a perfect pass inside the 18, where Shangraw leapt and knocked a header into the right corner of the net to lift the Royal Blue to a 2-1 lead.

St. Joe's sophomore netminder Scott Benner (Post Falls, Idaho) made a pair of saves in the victory while his counterpart, Albertus Magnus senior keeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.), tallied eight stops in a losing effort.

Overall, Saint Joseph's held a decided 19-9 advantage in shots while both teams attempted three corner kicks in the conference contest. The foul tally was equal as well with both sides being whistled for infractions on nine occasions.

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-5 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College. Entering today's action, the Monks had suffered three-consecutive losses at the hands of the Falcons, two by way of the shutout.

Saint Joseph's returns to the pitch on Wednesday when the team travels to Willimantic, Connecticut for a non-conference tilt versus Eastern Connecticut State University starting at 4:00 PM. Albertus Magnus plays at Western Connecticut State University at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
