Saint Joseph’s Topples Anna Maria, 4-0

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-3-1, 5-1 GNAC) blanked Anna Maria College (2-9-1, 1-5-0 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer match at Deering Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.

THE LEAD

A pair of freshmen produced all of the Monks' offense in the one-sided triumph, as rookie forward Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) netted his ninth and 10th tallies of the season in the opening half and first-year forward Ryan Guidaboni (Nashua, N.H.) scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in the second stanza to account for the 4-0 final.

GOAL HISTORY

1. 3:28                    Brett Mattos                         (unassisted)

The Monks struck early, as senior Ralph Houanche (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) served a corner kick into the box, where junior Nicholas Borowski (Webster, Mass.) steered a pair of shots on frame before Mattos collected the rebound and slipped the ball into the back of the net.

2. 16:57                 Brett Mattos                         (Ralph Houanche)

Saint Joseph's doubled the cushion just over 13 minutes later on a similar play, as Houanche delivered a corner kick in front of the net, where Mattos settled the ball and buried a shot into the left panel of the goal.

3. 63:40                 Ryan Guidaboni                  (Dalton Gaumer)

A pair of first-year contributors connected for the third SJC goal, as freshman Dalton Gaumer (Riverside, Calif.) threaded the needle with a through ball, sending Guidaboni on a breakaway and the rookie striker beat Anna Maria senior keeper Elliot Kuzma (East Haven, Conn.) with a shot to the left side.

4. 70:53                 Ryan Guidaboni                  (unassisted)

Guidaboni struck again barely seven minutes later, as the freshman notched his second goal of the night after being sprung free on a Joe Fusaro (Hawthorne, N.J.) through ball. He finished the play with a kick to the bottom left corner.
