STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College (6-0-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) men's soccer team defeated Bowdoin College (4-3-0, 2-1-1 NESCAC) for the first time in program history in a non-conference contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) netted the game's lone goal in the 27th minute and the Monks held off a determined Polar Bears attack in the second half to remain undefeated through seven games this fall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks applied most of the offensive pressure in the first half, as evidenced by an 11-1 shots advantage before the break, and broke the scoreless stalemate with an impressive individual effort by Robinson, who received a lead pass down the left sideline from Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine), turned the corner past a Bowdoin defender, and unleashed a shot to the top right corner of the net at the 26:25 mark.

THE KEEPERS:

St. Joe's junior Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.) notched his fifth shutout of the season after making three saves, including a terrific diving stop on a Will Hermon (Dover, Mass.) close-range shot in the 78th minute.

Bowdoin senior netminder Stevie Van Siclen (Carlisle, Mass.) recorded four saves in the losing effort.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (16-5) and shots on goal (5-3) while Bowdoin owned a 6-4 lead in corner kicks, including five in the second half.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Prior to tonight, the Monks were winless in four games versus the Polar Bears with all four setbacks being of the shutout variety. The in-state foes last faced off on October 2nd, 2012, a matchup that resulted in a 4-0 Bowdoin triumph.
