Four Monks to Play in NEISL Senior All-Star Game

STANDISH, Maine – Four Saint Joseph's College men's soccer players have been chosen to compete in the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game.

Midfielder Dalton Gaumer (Corona, Calif.), forward Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.), goalkeeper Blake Mullen (Manchester, Conn.), and midfielder Rory Twomey (South Windsor, Conn.) will suit up for the NEISL "Blue" team in the annual exhibition game, which will take place on Sunday, November 25th at 1:00 PM at Gordon Field on the campus of Brandeis University.

Sponsored by GoPlay Sports Tours, this year's game will showcase 44 of the best seniors hailing from a total of 29 New England NCAA DIII institutions. Gaumer, Mattos, Mullen and Twomey are the only four players from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to be selected to play on Sunday.

Only three other individuals who played their collegiate soccer in Maine are listed among the 44 players on the two rosters: Robbie Montanaro (Bates), Jake Stenquist (Bowdoin), and Charlie Mull (Southern Maine).

Gaumer, a two-time GNAC Defensive Player of the Year honoree who garnered a pair of All-America awards last fall, played in 84 games – including 83 starts – with five goals and six assists for 16 total points during his collegiate career. Over the last three seasons he has led an SJC defense that posted a 0.25 goals-against average with 17 tallies allowed in 66 games.

Mattos, the two-time GNAC Offensive Player of the Year recipient, capped his college career as the Monks' all-time leader in goals (50), points (122), shots (208), and game-winning goals (18) and is ranked second in assists (22). He played and started in all 85 of the team's games over the last four seasons.

Mullen, a three-time GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year honoree and 2017 Second Team D3soccer.com All-American, posted a 58-6-7 record with 36 shutouts and a 0.31 goals-against average in 71 career games. The three-year starter allowed 21 goals and made 169 saves in nearly 6,078 minutes for an .889 save percentage and is the Monks' all-time leader in wins, shutouts, save percentage, goals-against average, minutes, and games.

Mullen's 0.31 career goals-against average is the lowest in the history of NCAA Men's Soccer – all three divisions – and last fall the 6'8" keeper set new NCAA single-season records for goals against average (0.05) and save percentage (.983) while shattering the NCAA record with 1,706:09 consecutive minutes of shutout play.

Twomey, a three-time All-Conference honoree, tallied five goals and two assists with four game-winners over 85 career games – including 82 starts – over the last four seasons. Head Coach Adrian Dubois has routinely touted the Monks' central midfielder as the team's most important player over the last four seasons.

The SJC quartet will be the first to appear in the NEISL Senior All-Star Game since current Assistant Coach Mike Sanfilippo '12 was chosen to play in the 2011 exhibition tilt.

The 2019 graduating class – Gaumer, Mattos, Mullen, Twomey, Mitchell Cyr (Rochester, N.H.), Jesse Ramirez (Dumont, N.J.), Nicholas Seta (Hampton, N.H.), and James Stevens (Marshfield, Mass.) - helped the Monks post an incredible 66-10-9 (.777) overall record, including a 33-3-2 (.868) mark in conference play, with three GNAC Championships over the last four seasons.

Saint Joseph's, ranked fifth and eighth in the last D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches national polls of the season, respectively, is the only New England program – and one of seven in the nation - to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.
