STANDISH, Maine – The eighth D3Soccer.com national poll has been released and Saint Joseph's College is ranked 24th in the country. The Monks are also ranked eighth in this week's United Soccer Coaches New England Region poll.
Led by first-year Head Coach Will Pike '12, Saint Joseph's is 13-1-2 overall with an 8-0-1 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play through October 25th and enters the D3Soccer.com national rankings for the first time this season after receiving votes in the week seven poll. The Monks were ranked nationally every week last fall, including the #5 ranking heading into the NCAA Tournament, and capped the year sitting at #14 in the country.
On Monday evening, the Monks suffered their first regular-season setback – a 1-0 loss to WPI, which is ranked #6 in New England - in over three years. The loss to the Engineers snapped an incredible 65-game (59-0-6) regular-season undefeated streak as well as a 38-game (34-0-4) unbeaten string in at home.
The Monks' last loss, a 2-0 setback at the hands of University of New England, was on September 4th, 2016.
Over the last four seasons, the Monks have recorded an incredible 68-4-10 (.829) overall record, including an undefeated 36-0-3 (.923) mark in conference play, with three GNAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
During this four-year span, Saint Joseph's has tallied 66 shutouts and outscored their opponents by a 232-24 margin.
Saint Joseph's will play at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday in a conference contest slated to start at 1:00 PM.
