Three Monks Garner United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors have been released and three Saint Joseph's College men's players have earned accolades.

Senior defender Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) has claimed First Team All-New England honors, senior midfielder Jackson Taylor (Gorham, Maine) is a Second Team All-New England honoree, and junior goalkeeper David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) is listed on the All-New England Third Team.

Robinson, the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-GNAC honoree, earns the first All-Region award of his career after scoring eight goals with an assist for 17 total points during his senior season. He led the Monks in goals and ranked second in points and helped St. Joe's post the third-lowest goals-against average (0.503) in NCAA DIII Men's Soccer this fall. For his career, Robinson scored 23 goals with six game-winners and eight assists for 54 total points in 80 games.

Taylor, a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, also collects the first All-Region accolade of his career after netting two goals eight a team-high eight assists for 12 total points this fall. One of the Monks best – yet unheralded – players during the program's most successful four-year span, Taylor tallied six goals with 22 assists for 34 total points over 82 career contests.

Walbridge takes home Third Team All-New England honors after posting impressive numbers in his first year as a starter. Facing the unenviable task of replacing two-time All-American Blake Mullen '19, Walbridge proceeded to claim GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors after posting a 15-2-3 record with seven shutouts and a 0.46 goals against average. In 1,758 minutes in goal, the junior keeper allowed nine goals with 43 saves for an .827 save percentage. He finished the season ranked third in the country in goals against average, eighth in shutouts, and 34th in save percentage.

The Monks account for three of the five GNAC players who garnered United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors and join Third Teamers Salah Oumorou and Amerle Nemeye of Albertus Magnus College and Norwich University, respectively, on the 2019 list of honorees.

Saint Joseph's is one of eight New England programs to have three or more players collected All-Region accolades, as the Monks join UMass.-Boston, Amherst College, Connecticut College, Tufts University, Williams College, Babson College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute on this exclusive list.

Under the watch of first-year Head Coach Will Pike '11, the Monks posted a 16-2-3 record – including a 9-0-2 mark in conference play – en route to earning the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The Monks advanced to the conference championship for the fourth-consecutive season with hard fought tourney wins over Emmanuel and Norwich, but their bid to claim a fourth-straight GNAC title were dashed in a 1-0 double-overtime loss to top-seeded Johnson & Wales University in the conference championship on Saturday, November 9th.

The loss signaled the end of collegiate soccer for the Monks' seven seniors: Ryan Buonaiuto (Scituate, R.I.), Mitchell Duncan (Sanford, Maine), Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine), Brennan Goodrich (Essex Junction, Vt.), Noah Robinson (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Jackson Taylor (Gorham, Maine), and Keenan Welzel (Brunswick, Maine).

During what is arguably the most impressive four-year span posted by a program in SJC Athletics history, this senior class played a hand in 87 games with an incredible 71-5-11 (.816) overall record, including an undefeated 37-0-4 (.902) mark in conference play, with three GNAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Over the last four seasons, the Monks tallied 68 shutouts and outscored their opponents by a 241-28 margin.
