ON THIS DATE: Four Monks Combine to Claim Six GNAC Weekly Honors

On October 18th, 2015 four Saint Joseph's College athletes combined to garner a total of six Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades.

Baker Tabbed as GNAC Goalkeeper & Rookie of the Week

Saint Joseph's College freshman Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) was selected as the GNAC Field Hockey Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week on October 18th, 2015.

Baker did not allow a goal in two games with 158:57 of shutout play during the week. The freshman keeper made five stops in a thrilling double-overtime victory at Gordon College on October 11th and stopped the only shot she faced in a key 2-0 win over Lasell College five days later.

Mattos Named GNAC Player & Rookie of the Week

Saint Joseph's College freshman Brett Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) was elected as the GNAC Men's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week on October 18th, 2015.

Mattos scored at least once in each of the Monks' four games during the previous week and totaled six goals overall to help Saint Joseph's post a 3-1 record during the reporting period. The GNAC goals and points leader popped the game-winner versus Mount Ida College on Monday and netted four goals during the weekend, with two against Johnson & Wales and another pair versus Lyndon State College.

Wachowiak & Thompson Earn GNAC Offensive, Defensive Player Honors

Senior middle blocker Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) was selected as the GNAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time and freshman libero Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) claimed her third GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honor on October 18th, 2015.

Wachowiak continued her torrid pace in four matches as the senior middle blocker recorded 56 kills along with a 4.31 kills per set average and a stellar .443 attack rate, with just nine errors in 106 attempts at the net. Wachowiak posted a .714 attack rate with 16 kills in the Monks' first victory in 17 years over University of New England on October 14th and also became the GNAC's career blocks leader in the win over UNE.

Thompson totaled 70 digs in four matches (13 sets) for a 5.38 digs per set mark during the reporting period. The first-year libero broke the SJC single-season digs record in the team's win over University of New England.
