LEWISTON, ME – Saint Joseph's College participated in the Bates College Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Saturday. The men placed fifth with five team points in the event.
Sophomore Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) broke the Monks' 3000-meter run record with a 10:44.32 effort and the 4x400 relay quartet also set a new team mark with a 3:51.98 time, which was good for fifth overall.
Other top performers included senior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine), who placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:01.80), and sophomore Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who raced to a ninth-place finish in the 200-meter run (24.16).
The men finished behind University of Maine (266), Bates (172), Colby College (112) and Southern Maine (109).
On the women's side, freshman Gabby Lodge (Westbrook, Maine) first member of the women's program to compete in a pentathlon event on Friday. She placed fifth in the shot put (6.99m) and was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (12.02) and finished seventh in the high jump (1.16m – team record), long jump (3.66m) and 800-meter run (3:26.35) events. Lodge placed seventh overall with 1382 points in the five-competition event and went on to break the team's weight throw record (8.39m).
Including the two marks broken by Lodge, four team records fell during the event. Junior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) placed fifth with a new team-best in the 800-meter run (2:32.83) and sophomore Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) topped the Monks' shot put record with a 9.39m effort.
Junior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) posted a fifth-place finish in the 1000-meter run (3:15.25), freshman Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:35.43) and sophomore Lauren Rabideau (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 1-mile run (5:39.31).
The women finished sixth with 15 points, behind Bates (222.50), University of Maine (148), Colby College (148), Southern Maine (140) and Husson University (26.50).
Saint Joseph's will compete in the Boston University Terrier Classic next Saturday.
