Monks Compete in George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, MA – The Saint Joseph's College outdoor track & field teams competed in the George Davis Invitational at University of Massachusetts-Lowell on Saturday.

Five men's team records were broken in the event, including a pair by freshman Calvin Field (Windham, Maine), who set SJC outdoor records with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.90m) and a sixth-place effort in the 100-meter dash (11.83).

Senior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine) topped the 400-meter dash record with a 51.63 time, good for seventh overall, and junior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) broke the 3000-meter steeplechase mark for the second-consecutive week with a 10.54.98 performance, which placed him third in the event.

Seven women's team marks were bested in the event, which featured a handful of NCAA DII institutions and some elite DIII programs. Junior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) broke the 5000-meter (18:47.40) and 1500-meter (4:55.00) records with third and 17th-place finishes, respectively and freshman Tiara Smith (Boston, Mass.) also set a pair of new marks, placing 15th in the 100-meter dash (12.80) and 16th in the shot put (9.67m) events.

Saint Joseph's participates in a pair of competitions this Saturday, as the women race in the Aloha Relays at Bowdoin College and the men compete in the Maine State Championship at Colby College.
