Monks' Harriers Place 8th at Bowdoin Invite

BRUNSWICK, ME – Saint Joseph's finished eighth with 223 team points in the Bowdoin College Invitational Men's 8K on Saturday. Freshman Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) paced the Royal Blue and placed 45th out of 129 runners with a 28:41 performance.

With five runners in the top nine, Bowdoin claimed the invitational crown with 27 team points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Tufts University, which posted 59 points on the day. UMass.-Dartmouth (103 points), Colby Sawyer College (127) and Bates College (128) capped the top five participating programs in the event.

Ben Wallis of Tufts University took the individual title with a 25:28 time, 32 seconds ahead of runner-up Nick Saba of Bowdoin College. Bowdoin's James Boeding placed third (26:08), Maine Maritime's Matt Methot was fourth (26:12) and Kevin Hoose of Bowdoin raced to a fifth-place finish (26:24).

For Saint Joseph's, freshman Cody Vachon (Shapleigh, Maine) placed 50th (28:49), junior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) was 57th (29:08), sophomore Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) finished 88th (31:12), sophomore Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) placed 95th (32:05), junior Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) was 102nd (33:14), and junior Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) finished 109th (34:05).

The Monks will race again next Saturday when the team makes an appearance in the Keene State College Invitational.
