Men Finish 20th in Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College men's cross country team placed 20th with 539 points in the Purple Valley Classic at Mt. Greylock High School on Saturday. Sophomore Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) led the Monks with a 29:40 effort and finished 154th out of 236 total runners in the 8K event.

Senior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) was 164th with a 29:58 effort, freshman Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) placed 168th (30:12), junior Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) finished 206th (31:38), and junior Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) was 216th (32:11). Seniors Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) (37:06, 231) and Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) (39:15, 233) also raced in the event for the Monks.

Colby College sophomore David Chelimo won the event with a 25:42 effort, just three seconds ahead of Williams College senior Colin Cotton, who placed as the runner-up with a 25:45 performance.

With all five scorers in the top 17 overall, Colby collected top team honors with 55 points, Williams placed second with 63 points, and MIT was third with 72 points.

Saint Joseph's is off until Saturday, October 11th when the Monks host the Runnin' Monks Invitational.
