Men Place Sixth at Maine Championship

FARMINGTON, Maine – Saint Joseph's College placed sixth out of 11 institutions with 217 points in the 2014 Maine Collegiate Cross Country Championship at Mount Blue High School on Saturday. Sophomore Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) led the Monks with a 28:55 time and placed 48th of 147 runners overall.

Freshman Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) posted a 29:18 effort and finished 57th, one place ahead of senior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.), who toured the 8K course in 29:19. Junior Taidhe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) placed 83rd with a 30:39 performance, junior Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) was 100th with a 31:55 time, and senior Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) finished 135th with a 36:45 performance.

Bates College captured the team title for the third time in the last four years with 26 points while Bowdoin College finished as the runner-up with 38 points. Colby College (64 points), Southern Maine (118), University of New England (143), Maine-Farmington (223), Maine Maritime (234), Thomas College (252), Husson University (276) and Maine-Presque Isle (291) rounded out the list of competing programs.

Individually, John Stansel of Bates was the top finisher with a 26:22 effort and became the first Bobcats runner since 2006 to win the Maine Championship race. Bowdoin's Avery Wentworth was the runner-up with a 26:31 time, Zach Magin of Bates posted a 26:35 performance and was third, and a pair of Bowdoin runners – Bridger Tomlin and Matt Jacobson – rounded out the top five finishers with 26:42 and 26:45 efforts, respectively.

Saint Joseph's is off until Saturday, November 1st when the team hosts the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship.
