BRUNSWICK, Maine – Both Saint Joseph's College cross country teams placed sixth in the Maine State Invitational, hosted by Bowdoin College, on Saturday. The women finished sixth in the Maine standings with 184 points while the men tallied 223 points.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
Connecticut College claimed the overall title with 19 points and Bowdoin College earned the Maine Championship, while placing second overall, with 29 points. Bates (56), Colby (70), Southern Maine (95), and University of New England (135) rounded out the top five Maine institutions in this year's event.
Bowdoin senior Sean MacDonald won the 8K race with a 25:11 time, 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Danny Aschale of Connecticut College.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Freshman Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) led the Monks with a 28:12 time and finished 73rd overall
- Freshman Jacob Huberdeau (Plaistow, N.H.) placed 77th with a 28:20 effort
- Freshman Michael Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was 114th with a 29:35 performance
- Sophomore Brandon Whitlock (Westbrook, Maine) finished 137th (30:28)
- Junior Ben Plante (Biddeford, Maine) placed 142nd (30:45)
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
Brandeis University won the event with 18 points and Bates College claimed the Maine State Championship, and finished second overall, with 25 points. Colby College (56), Bowdoin College (66), University of New England (116), and Southern Maine (152) rounded out the top five Maine institutions.
Brandeis senior Emily Bryson won the 6K race with a 21:37 time, 27 seconds ahead of runner-up Sophia Gorman of Colby College.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Sophomore Lauren Fisher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) finished 68th with a 24:55 time
- Senior Sarah Curtin (Strafford, N.H.) was 78th with a 25:14 performance
- Senior Lauren Lecompte (Lewiston, Maine) placed 83rd (25:24)
- Freshman Naomi Ingham (alton, N.H.) was 131st (26:42)
- Freshman Alirose Beauregard (Dover, N.H.) finished (26:44)
