STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (14-14, 10-6 GNAC) posted a pair of mercy-rule victories over Regis (Mass.) (7-17, 3-13 GNAC) at Richard W. Bailey Field on Sunday afternoon. The Monks opened with an 8-0 triumph and completed the sweep with a 13-2 victory in the closing contest.

GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 8, Regis (Mass.) 0 (5 inn.):

As it played out, the Monks produced all the necessary offense in the bottom of the first with five runs off five hits, including a lead-off home run by sophomore second baseman Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine). Junior pitcher Kristal Smith (Pittston, Maine), freshman left fielder Madeline Wood (Madison, Maine), and senior center fielder Casidee Couture (Jay, Maine) added RBI singles and junior shortstop Meghan Elliott (Mendon, Mass.) walked and scored on a wild pitch to lift the hosts to a 5-0 lead.

For good measure, St. Joe's tacked on a single run off a Katie Chadbourne (Jaffrey, N.H.) single in the third and enforced the eight-run rule with two runs off three knocks in the bottom of the fifth, when Pomerleau posted an RBI single and freshman Grace Chadbourne (Jaffrey, N.H.) roped a run-scoring double to account for the 8-0 final score.

IN THE CIRCLE:

• Smith picked up her fifth win in her last five starts and improved to 7-6 on the season after allowing two hits and a walk while fanning seven batters over five frames
• Pride junior starter Allie Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing five runs off five hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning
• Freshman Alyssa Rossillo (Sudbury, Mass.) worked 4.1 innings in relief and allowed three runs (two earned) off six hits with three K's

OFF THE BAT:

• Pomerleau was 2-4 with a run, a homer, and two RBI
• Smith helped her cause by going 2-3 with two runs and an RBI
• Junior first baseman Melodie Bailey (Lebanon, Maine) went 2-3 with a run, a double, and a stolen base
• Katie Chadbourne was 2-3 with a run and an RBI

GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 13, Regis (Mass.) (5 inn.):

The Pride scored single runs in the first two innings and held a 2-0 lead going into bottom of the third, when the Monks got on the board and grabbed the lead for good with three runs off three hits, as Bailey notched an RBI single, Katie Chadbourne stole home on a first-and-third steal play, and sophomore third baseman Kaylee Burns (Saco, Maine) put the Monks on top with a solo homer.

For the second time in as many days, Saint Joseph's put double digits on the board in a single turn at the bat, as the hosts scored 10 runs off nine hits and a Regis (Mass.) error to secure a 13-2 lead through four innings. Pomerleau launched her second home run of the day, a two-run blast and freshman Makayla Cooper (Fryeburg, Maine) and senior Katherine Collette (Rumford, Maine) registered two-run singles during the 10-run fourth.

IN THE CIRCLE:

• SJC sophomore starter Kate Whitney (Jonesboro, Maine) earned her sixth victory of the season after allowing two runs off three hits over four innings
• Sophomore Caitlyn King (Old Town, Maine) fanned one batter in a clean inning of relief
• Rossillo started for the Pride and tossed all four innings, allowing 13 runs (nine earned) off 14 hits and three walks

OFF THE BAT:

• Pomerleau was 2-3 with two runs, a homer, a stolen base, and two RBI
• Burns went 2-2 with two runs and a solo home run
• Bailey added two hits, a run, a double, and an RBI in three at-bats
• Wood was 2-3 with two runs and a double
• Grace Chadbourne went 2-3 with a run, a double, and an RBI
• Regis (Mass.) junior shortstop Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.) was 2-2 with an RBI
