STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball postseason honors have been announced and four Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.
Junior first baseman Melodie Bailey (Lebanon, Maine) has garnered First Team honors, sophomore second baseman Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) and junior shortstop Meghan Elliott (Mendon, Mass.) have claimed Second Team accolades, and sophomore designated player Maizie Lee (Saco, Maine) is listed on the Third Team.
Bailey earns All-Conference honors for the first time after establishing career-highs in batting average (.467), hits (56), runs (26), doubles (13), triples (2), RBI (24), total bases (73), slugging (.608), OBP (.508), and stolen bases (7) during her junior season. She finished the 2018 campaign ranked fourth in the GNAC in batting average and doubles and fifth in OBP and hits. During the season, the junior captain posted a team-high 16-game hitting streak with 16 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI performances.
A .352 career hitter, Bailey goes into her final college season with 124 hits, 64 runs, 28 doubles, and 60 RBI over 117 contests.
Pomerleau, also a first-time All-GNAC honoree, enjoyed a breakout season as a sophomore and led the team in hits (61), runs (39), homers (4), slugging percentage (.637), and stolen bases (14) this spring. The second-year standout also led the conference in hits, ranked third in at-bats (135), fourth in runs, and fifth in batting average (.452), steals, and total bases (88). Pomerleau registered 19 multiple-hit performances with an 11-game hitting streak during the 2018 season.
Elliott, a 2017 First Team All-Conference selection, claims Second Team honors after hitting .330 (35-106) with 32 runs, four doubles, 17 RBI, and five stolen bases this spring. She ranked second on the team in runs and heads into her senior season with 109 hits, 87 runs, and 52 RBI in 112 career contests.
Lee collects her first All-Conference nod after hitting .365 (35-96) with 15 runs, six doubles, three homers, and 28 RBI during a breakout sophomore season. She ranked second on the team in home runs, RBI, and slugging percentage (.542) this spring.
Under the watch of Co-Head Coaches Jamie Smyth '92 and Dick Bailey, the 2018 softball team went 20-19 overall with a 15-9 record in conference play en route to securing the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. The Monks opened with a 7-3 win over Albertus Magnus College but bowed out of tourney contention with losses to top-seeded Suffolk University and #3 Simmons College.
