STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College (6-5) defeated University of Maine-Fort Kent (1-8), 95-54, in a non-conference women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Six Monks netted at least 10 points with senior guard Megan McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) leading the way with 15 in the lopsided victory.

St. Joe's opened the contest with nine unanswered points but the Bengals managed to mount a comeback with the help of an 8-2 run and trailed by three, 11-8, with 14:44 remaining in the first half. Fort Kent freshman forward Ericka Christensen (Warren, Maine) accounted for all eight of the visitor's points and finished the game with 14.

The Bengals would get no closer to the lead however, as the Monks put up 12 straight points over the following 3:25 of play to secure a 23-8 cushion. Saint Joseph's carried a comfortable 50-22 lead into intermission.

McDevitt netted all of her team-high 15 points in the opening period while senior center Ashley Geel (St. George, Maine) chipped in with eight points and seven caroms in the first half. Christensen paced the Bengals with 10 points and Arcilla Jeffers (Basseterre, St. Kitts) came off the bench to score seven in the first half.

St. Joe's shot 62.5% from the floor, 50% from downtown, and 100% (4-4) from the free throw line, while Fort Kent shot 26.9% overall, 16.7% from three-point land, and 77.8% from the FT line.

The Monks sustained a secure advantage for the remainder of the afternoon and held a game-high 46-point lead – 90-44 – after sophomore guard Skyler Makkinje (Hillsboro, N.H.) converted a layup with 5:04 remaining.

For the Monks, Geel netted 13 points and seven rebounds, Danyelle Shufelt '13 (Sutton, Vt.) tallied 13 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals, Lindsay Moore '14 (Barrington, N.H.) added 12 points off a 6-7 shooting effort, and Abby Young '14 (North Yarmouth, Maine) posted 11 points, seven caroms, and three assists in 17 minutes coming off the bench.

Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) enjoyed a breakout game, as the freshman point guard came off the pine to tally 10 points, six assists and four steals – all career-highs - over 20 minutes. Senior guard Allie Parent (Camden, Maine) registered nine points, five assists, and four steals and McDevitt added five dimes to her impressive stat line and made three of five attempts from beyond the arc in the win.

For the Bengals, Jeffers netted 15 points, Christensen tallied 14 points, five boards, and a pair of steals, and sophomore guard Jenn Colpitts (Scarborough, Maine) added nine points in a losing effort.

Overall, Saint Joseph's shot 62.3% (38-61) from the floor, 50% (7-14) from three-point distance, and 70.6% (12-17) from the FT line. Fort Kent shot 33.3% (17-51) from the field, 26.7% (4-15) from downtown, and 80% (16-20) from the charity stripe.

Saint Joseph's held advantages in rebounds (38-23), assists (27-8), and steals (14-10) and also won the turnover battle (19-26). The Monks also posted leads in points off turnovers (43-15), points in the paint (40-20), second-chance points (14-6), fast break points (14-2), and bench points (46-20) on the afternoon.

With the win, St. Joe's improves to 16-3 in the history of the series with University of Maine-Fort Kent. The Monks' points output in today's victory is the most the Royal Blue has scored versus the Bengals since January 14th, 2001, when Saint Joseph's defeated UMFK by a 97-43 margin.

St. Joe's, which scored 92 points in a win over Elms College earlier this season, has not topped 90 points twice in the same campaign since 2000-01, when the Royal Blue topped 90 three times over a span of four games. The Monks have now scored 90 or more points in 95 different games (including 34 games over 100) over the 35-year history of the program.

Saint Joseph's will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a contest at Lasell College on Tuesday at 6:00 PM. Fort Kent plays at SUNY-Canton tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 PM.
