McNamara Honored by NEWBA, MWBCA & GNAC

STANDISH, Maine – The first women's basketball weekly awards of the 2018-19 season have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has received a trio of accolades.

The senior standout has been selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week and has also been listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor roll.

McNamara collects the accolades after averaging 23.5 points, 3.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 41.2% (14-34 FG, 6-16 3PT) to help the Monks claim the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament Championship over the weekend. The senior guard netted 25 points in a lopsided win over Eastern Nazarene on Friday and added 22 points in the championship win over Framingham State on Saturday. She shot 92.9% (13-14) from the FT line in the two games.

Through three contests McNamara is averaging 23.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. She is shooting 46.8% (22-47) from the field, 40.9% (9-22) from three-point distance, and 94.1% (16-17) from the free throw line and owns a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio thus far this season.

With 22 points in Tuesday's triumph over Thomas College, McNamara hit the 1,500 career-point mark on the button, becoming just the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone. She entered the home opener with 1,478 points.

The Monks will host UMaine-Farmington in a non-conference matchup next Tuesday at 5:30 PM.
