WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (14-7, 7-1 GNAC) soared past University of Saint Joseph (10-12, 2-6 GNAC), 61-36, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks kicked off play with seven unanswered points and went on to lead for the entirety of play, with a 32-16 halftime advantage and a game-high 25-point (43-18) cushion after freshman Bri Jordan (Gray, Maine) made a layup with 4:55 left in the third quarter.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Saint Joseph's made 25 of 61 shots for a 41.0% success rate from the floor while University of Saint Joseph connected on just 12 of 42 bids from the field for a 28.6% clip…The Monks also held a 36-20 lead in points in the paint and scored 19 points off 22 USJ turnovers on the afternoon.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Sophomore guard Alyson Fillion (Bedford, N.H.) scored 14 points with three rebounds
- Senior guard Julia Quinn (Fryeburg, Maine) was 5-for-8 from the field with 12 points, three boards, three steals, and two assists
- Sophomore guard Kaleigh Walsh (Windham, N.H.) nearly notched a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds and dealt three assists
- Sophomore guard Sophie Giardina (Bradenton, Fla.) came off the bench to score 10 points in 16 minutes
- Jordan pulled down 10 rebounds with seven points and three assists
LEADERS – UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH:
- Anna Chevarella came off the bench to score a team-high seven points with a pair of rebounds
- Katelyn Vazquez and Silvana Barcomb chipped in with six points apiece
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 11-2 in the history of the series with University of Saint Joseph and has now defeated the Blue Jays in five-consecutive meetings.
