STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (16-8, 8-2 GNAC) toppled Rivier University (4-19, 0-10 GNAC), 87-51, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks took control early by scoring the game's first 14 points and held a daunting 26-4 lead after shooting 64.7% (11-17) from the field – while holding the Raiders to a 10.5% (2-19) performance -during the opening frame.
St. Joe's proceeded to hold a double-digit advantage for the remainder of play and closed out the contest with a game-high 36-point lead.
STATS OF THE GAME:
The Monks shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field while the Raiders posted a 32.8% (19-58) effort from the floor…St. Joe's held considerable leads in rebounds (41-27), assists (24-15), points off turnovers (29-9), second-chance points (14-4), points in the paint (38-10), and bench points (53-13) in the victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Senior forward Lexi L'Heureux-Carland (Bridgton, Maine) scored 12 points with four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench
- Sophomore guard Grace Philippon (Glenburn, Maine) also netted 12 points with three rebounds
- Junior guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) added nine points and three steals
- Sophomore guard Alyson Fillion (Bedford, N.H.) tallied nine points, four rebounds, and two assists
- Freshman guard Jayne Howe (Pembroke, Mass.) chipped in with eight points, five assists, and four boards
- Freshman forward Mikayla Van Zandt (Westbrook, Maine) contributed six points with eight rebounds and a pair of steals
LEADERS – RIVIER:
- Freshman guard Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) tallied 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals
- Sophomore forward Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds including six on the offensive glass
- Freshman forward Heather Ries (Mount Vernon, N.H.) scored nine points with six rebounds
- Junior forward Catherine Torpey (Melrose, Mass.) added eight points
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win Saint Joseph's improves to 16-5 all-time versus Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in four-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2017-18 season.
