Monks Top Corsairs, Extend Win Streak to 12 Games

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (12-1, 8-0 GNAC) surged past University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (1-9, 0-2 LEC), 13-6, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest held at Deering Memorial Stadium on Sunday morning. Junior midfielder Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) netted three goals with three assists and 10 ground balls to help the Monks extend their program-record winning streak to 12 games.

Saint Joseph's fell into a hole early, as the Corsairs scored twice in the opening five minutes and held a 5-3 advantage when junior Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) potted her third goal of the game with 8:52 remaining in the first half. The complexion of the contest quickly turned in the Monks' favor however, as the hosts netted four straight goals in the final eight minutes of the first half to account for a portion of a 10-0 run that was capped by a Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) goal at the 10:03 mark of the second stanza.

Freshman attack Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) led the SJC offense with four goals and an assist while collecting four ground balls and three draw controls while sophomore Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) tallied three goals, eight ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers in the victory. Leasure chipped in a goal, two assists and seven ground balls, senior Lizzie Calnan (Westport, Mass.) added a goal, two assists and three caused turnovers and sophomore Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) contributed a goal and an assist.

Sophomore Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine) made a pair of saves in the triumph.

For the Corsairs, Kane netted four goals with four ground balls and three caused turnovers and freshman midfielder Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) added a pair of goals and four draw controls in a losing effort. Freshman goalkeeper Erin LeBlanc (Walpole, Mass.) made 14 saves in the setback.

Saint Joseph's held sizeable advantages in shots (37-12) and ground balls (41-20) with an 11-10 edge in draw controls in the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday when the team hosts Regis College in a non-conference contest slated to start at 7:30 PM.
