WATERVILLE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-1) toppled Thomas College (0-3), 18-3, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon.

THE LEAD

The Monks increased their win streak to four games with the help of a quick start, as the visitors opened with five unanswered goals, with junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) initiating the scoring at the 25:22 mark and eight minutes later closing the offensive outburst with her second of three goals on the afternoon.

Thomas sophomore Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) put the hosts on the board with 10:44 left in the first half, but Saint Joseph's countered with another five-goal run – including three from sophomore Hayley Quirion (Augusta, Maine) - before Greenlaw scored at the 2:57 mark to make it a 10-2 game heading into intermission.

In the second stanza, the Monks continued to dominate and outscored the Terriers by an 8-1 margin on the way to the 18-3 triumph.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S

• Sophomore Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied six goals, an assist, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers
• Dumond finished the game with three goals and a pair of assists
• Freshman Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) scored three goals with an assist and four ground balls
• Senior Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) registered two goals, two assists, four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers
• Quirion capped her collegiate debut with three goals and a pair of draw controls
• Senior Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) was credited with three assists, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers
• Junior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) dealt a pair of assists with two ground balls, nine draw controls, and four caused turnovers
• Senior goalie Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) was rarely tested and made one save to pick up her fourth win of the season

LEADERS – THOMAS

• Greenlaw led the Terriers offensively with two goals on three shots
• Senior Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass.) added a goal and an assist with four ground balls, two draw controls, and four caused turnovers
• Senior keeper Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine) made 10 saves and picked up seven ground balls in the losing effort

Saint Joseph's held sizeable advantages in shots (34-6), draw controls (19-3), and ground balls (26-19) while successfully clearing on 100% (8-8) of the team's opportunities.

NOTEWORTHY

Freshman Samantha Medlin (Kingston, N.H.) netted her first collegiate goal in today's victory…with her first of two goals in the win, Gadbois reached the 100-goal plateau for her career, becoming just the fourth SJC player to hit the century mark…Gadbois also reached the 100-caused turnover mark and is just two CT's away from breaking the program's career record in the category.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 7-1 in the history of the series with Thomas College, a team that defeated the Monks in the last meeting between the in-state rivals – a 13-12 decision on March 15th, 2014. St. Joe's has now scored exactly 18 goals in three different games versus Thomas, with 18-0 and 18-6 wins during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, respectively.
