Monks Sail Past Falcons, 27-0

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost to visiting Saint Joseph's College, 27-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Celentano Field.

With the loss, the Falcons move to 0-5 on the year and 0-2 in league play, while the Monks bounced back from a midweek non-conference defeat to improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference tilts.

In wet and windy conditions, SJC took advantage of a short-handed AMC squad with 18 goals in the first half. During the first 10 minutes of play, the guests jumped out to an 8-0 edge. Early on, sophomore attack Elyse Caiazzo netted three goals, while Kelsey Dumond added a goal and an assist.

The Monks would score 10 more markers to close out the first half with freshman attack Samantha Medlin netting her first of the game to give the guests an 18-0 advantage heading into the break.

In the second half, Saint Joseph's found the back of the net nine more times to earn the conference triumph.

It was a balanced offensive attack for the Monks as five different players scored three or more goals, highlighted by a trio of student-athletes netting four goals apiece. Dumond had a game-high nine points thanks to a three-goal, six-assist performance to pace the visitors, while Kat Gadbois, Elizabeth Elcock and Caiazzo all scored four goals apiece.

In net, AMC freshman goalkeeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made 15 saves in a losing effort. On the opposite end, junior Meghan Fullarton stopped two shots to earn her first win of the year for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's, which broke the program's single-game records for goals, winning margin, and points and tied the SJC mark for draw controls (26), held a 38-8 advantage in shots.

The Falcons have now been shutout in back-to-back conference games.

Saint Joseph's will host Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday in a non-conference contest slated to start at 8:00 PM at Deering Memorial Stadium.
