PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-2, 2-0 GNAC) blanked Maine Maritime Academy (0-8, 0-3 NAC), 14-0, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

SJC HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) netted four goals with seven ground balls, two draw controls, and four caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) scored four goals with four ground balls
  • Senior Elizabeth Elcock (Westwood, Mass.) added two goals and an assist
  • Junior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) scored and tallied seven ground balls, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) chipped in with two assists
  • Junior goalie Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine) picked up the victory without making a save in the first half and senior Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) recorded one stop in the second stanza

MMA HIGHLIGHTS

  • Freshman keeper Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) made 10 saves in 41:55 between the pipes
  • Freshman Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) picked up three ground balls and also logged 18:05 in goal with a pair of stops

HOW IT HAPPENED

Gadbois scored on a free position shot 29 seconds into the game and the Monks held an 8-0 lead after senior Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) potted a free position marker with 21:24 left in the first half.

With steady snow falling, the Monks led 11-0 at halftime and received goals from Gadbois, Caiazzo, and freshman Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) in the second stanza to account for the 14-0 final.

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held considerable advantages in shots (33-2), ground balls (35-15), draw controls (11-5), and caused turnovers (18-3) in the victory.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

Saint Joseph's is now 2-0 all-time versus Maine Maritime Academy, a second-year NCAA DIII varsity program.

Both teams face off against conference foes at home on Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts Simmons College in a GNAC battle slated to start at 4:00 PM at Deering Memorial and Maine Maritime takes on Johnson State at 3:30 PM.
