WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (13-2, 7-0 GNAC) blanked University of Saint Joseph (4-10, 1-7 GNAC), 18-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

THE LEAD

Saint Joseph's netted eight goals in the opening 10 minutes play and held a 13-0 cushion heading into intermission as the Monks outshot the Blue Jays by a decided 33-1 margin to remain undefeated in GNAC play.

With a goal at the 20:13 mark of the first half, senior midfielder Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) became the fourth player in SJC women's lacrosse history to reach the 200-point plateau, as she joins Cassie Diplock '14 (237), Alyssa Marchant '11 (231), and Lauren Hagerman '10 (207) on the short list.

SJC HIGHLIGHTS

  • Senior attacker Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) registered six assists, including the helper on Gadbois's historic goal
  • Twin sisters Kara and Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) netted three goals apiece
  • Junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) tallied three goals and an assist with two ground balls
  • Senior Elizabeth Elcock (Westwood, Mass.) and sophomore Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) chipped in with two goals and an assist apiece
  • Gadbois tallied a goal and three assists with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Junior midfielder Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) scored twice with six ground balls, nine draw controls, and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Carly Chasse (Windham, Maine) and freshman Madison Russell (Bridgewater, Mass.) also scored in the lopsided triumph

THE KEEPERS

Senior Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) was rarely tested and made one save in the victory – the 20th of her NCAA career – while USJ keeper Emily Bourassa totaled 12 stops in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 9-0 all-time versus University of Saint Joseph. Today's shutout triumph is the first in the history of the series between the conference counterparts.

Saint Joseph's has two games remaining on the regular season docket, as the Monks play an 8:00 PM tilt with GNAC rival Mount Ida College at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday and conclude the schedule with a conference game versus Norwich University, a contest which will be played at Westerlea Way Field starting at 1:00 PM.
