PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Josephs' College (14-2, 8-0 GNAC) toppled Mount Ida College (3-12, 2-6 GNAC), 18-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse game at Deering Memorial Stadium on Tuesday evening.

THE LEAD

Saint Joseph's scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes and held a 15-0 advantage heading into intermission as junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied four goals apiece in the opening stanza. Playing with running time, the conference counterparts both scored three goals in the second half to account for the 18-3 final.

SJC HIGHLIGHTS

• Caiazzo paced the Monks with five goals and added a pair of draw controls
• Senior Mary Leasure (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) tallied two goals and four assists
• Senior Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) contributed two goals, three assists, three ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls
• Senior Elizabeth Elcock (Westwood, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and an assist with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
• Freshman Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) scored twice in the triumph
• Junior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) added a goal, eight draw controls, and two ground balls
• Senior Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) picked up a game-high five ground balls

IDA HIGHLIGHTS

• Sophomore Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.), senior Samantha Basler (Plymouth, Mass.), and junior Nikki Kineen (Salem, N.H.) found the back of the net for the Mustangs
• Freshman Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) added an assist with three ground balls and two draw controls

THE KEEPERS

• Saint Joseph's senior Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) made three saves to pick up her 12th victory of the season
• Mount Ida freshman netminder Jackie Tarsook (Derry, N.H.) faced 28 shots and made 10 stops in the loss

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (34-8), ground balls (22-12), draw controls (14-6), and caused turnovers (10-5) in the triumph and successfully cleared on nine of 10 attempts on the evening. Mount Ida was 9-15 on clear attempts and scored a pair of goals on four free-position shots. The Monks were 4-5 on free-position bids.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 6-1 in the history of the series with Mount Ida College, a team the Monks defeated by an 18-7 margin in Newton last spring.

Both teams close out regular season play with GNAC contests this Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts Norwich University at Westerlea Way Field in a 1:00 PM start and Mount Ida travels to Albertus Magnus College for a 5:00 PM tilt.
