Saint Joseph’s Topples Thomas, 15-3

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (1-1) toppled Thomas College (0-1), 15-3, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks controlled play from the start with three goals in the first five minutes and carried a daunting 9-1 cushion into intermission. Saint Joseph's held sizeable advantages in shots (42-6), ground balls (39-23), draw controls (16-3), and caused turnovers (17-12) in the one-sided contest.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) made three saves in the victory while Thomas netminder Sydni Collier (Oakland, Maine) registered 18 saves in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) netted five goals with eight ground balls, four draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) tallied three goals and an assist with five ground balls, 10 draw controls, and three caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) registered two goals, three assists, seven ground balls, and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) added two goals and two assists
  • Freshman Micary Verville (Portland, Maine/Deering) chipped in with three ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) contributed a goal and an assist with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers

LEADERS – THOMAS:

  • Alexis Felch (Laconia, N.H.), Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine), and Sophia LaVallee (Pawling, N.Y.) netted a goal apiece
  • Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) added four ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine) tallied four ground balls and two caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-1 in the history of the series with Thomas College. The Monks defeated the Terriers by an 18-3 margin in Waterville last spring.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Wednesday facing University of Southern Maine at Deering Memorial Stadium in a 7:00 PM start. Thomas plays at Dean College Saturday at 2:00 PM.
