Monks Open Conference Play with 14-6 Victory Over Cadets

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) opened Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a 14-6 victory over Norwich University (2-2, 0-1 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Norwich held a 5-4 edge with 13:14 remaining in the first half, but Saint Joseph's netted seven straight, including five in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, to emerge victorious in what was the conference-opener for both programs.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) registered 11 saves, including three free-position stops, in the victory while Norwich freshman Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) tallied five saves in a losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior midfielder Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) scored five goals with four assists, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior midfielder Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) registered three goals and an assist with six ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers
  • Sophomore attack Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) scored twice
  • Sophomore attack Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) added a goal and two assists with a pair of caused turnovers
  • Sophomore defender Brittney Arsenault (Westbrook, Maine) scored and picked up four ground balls

LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Meaghan McGrath tallied two goals and an assist
  • Kathryn Albretsen scored twice
  • Chapel Guarnieri chipped in with a goal, four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, Saint Joseph's improves to 7-6 in the history of the series with Norwich University and has now defeated the Cadets in six-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2014 campaign. The victory is also the Monks' 19th straight win in conference regular season play.

Both teams are back at it Wednesday, when Saint Joseph's hits the road again for a 7:30 PM matchup with Regis College and Norwich hosts Green Mountain College in a 7:00 PM start.
