Monks Suffer 18-10 Loss at Hands of Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, RI – A great start to the second half propelled the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team to victory on Saturday. For the first time in program history, the Wildcats defeated Saint Joseph's College, 18-10, on Senior Day.

Saint Joseph's: 8-3, 5-1 GNAC

Johnson & Wales: 11-4, 7-0 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:

Lydia Knapp (JWU): 5 goals, 2 assists

Raquel Pederzani (JWU): 4 goals

Jackie Wilson (SJC): 3 goals, 1 assist

Of Note:

Jackie Wilson recorded her third point of the first half when she assisted on Kayla Kelly's goal to put SJC up 4-3. JWU closed the half on a 4-1 run to take a 7-5 advantage into the locker room. Four different players scored during the run.

Wilson struck for her third goal at the 22-minute mark to pull the Monks within 9-7. She scored a team-high three goals and was one of four SJC players with two or more goals.

Senior Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, NY) responded 90 seconds later to start a 5-1 run by the Wildcats to give them a 14-8 lead on Raquel Pederzani's (Coventry, RI) third goal.

Knapp led all players with a season-high seven points. She was one seven JWU players to notch at least two points. Pederzani was next with four goals while Gabrielle Vasile (Milford, Mass.) and Juliana Giello (Warwick, NY) had three goals and an assist.

For the Monks, the loss snaps a seven-game winning streak and counts as the program's first GNAC regular-season loss since April 19th, 2014 when Simmons topped SJC, 11-10. St. Joe's was riding a 23-game regular-season winning streak versus GNAC foes heading into today's game.

Johnson & Wales goes on the road for its final two regular season games, starting at Mount Ida on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. The Monks face Southern Maine in Gorham on Monday at 4:00 PM.
