STANDISH, Maine – The 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Lacrosse postseason awards have been released and four Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.
Junior midfielder Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the GNAC Offensive Player of the Year and is listed on the First Team for the third-consecutive season. Junior defender Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) has also collected First Team All-GNAC honors while senior midfielder Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) earns Second Team accolades and freshman goalkeeper Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) is a Third Team All-Conference honoree.
Caiazzo becomes the second SJC player to claim GNAC Offensive Player of the Year acclaim – the first was upcoming Saint Joseph's Hall of Fame inductee Alyssa Marchant '11 (2011) – after scoring 67 goals with 13 assists for 80 total points with 56 ground balls, 55 draw controls, and 15 caused turnovers in 17 starts this spring. She ranked second in the conference in goals and points, fourth in shots on goal (94), sixth in free-position goals (14), eighth in ground balls, ninth in draw controls, and 10th in shooting percentage (62%).
In three collegiate campaigns, Caiazzo is already the program's all-time points leader (251) and ranks second in team history in goals (204), fourth in draw controls (138), sixth in assists (47) and ground balls (184), and eighth in caused turnovers (62) over 55 career contests.
Maloney claims her first All-Conference honor after registering 33 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers while appearing in 15 games during her junior season. In three seasons, including two as a starter, she has posted 51 ground balls and 45 caused turnovers over 46 contests.
Wilson earns Second Team All-GNAC honors for the second-consecutive season after tallying 40 goals and 17 assists for 57 total points with 81 ground balls, 79 draw controls, and 34 caused turnovers while playing in all 17 games as a senior captain. She led the conference in ground balls and ranked third in caused turnovers, sixth in draw controls, and 10th in assists this spring.
For her career, Wilson scored 100 goals with 52 assists for 152 points with 250 ground balls, 322 draw controls, and 111 caused turnovers in 75 games. She finished her four years on the field ranked second in team history in games played, ground balls, draw controls, and caused turnovers and fifth in assists, sixth in goals, and eighth in points.
Mansir collects Third Team All-Conference mention after posting an 8.25 goals against average and a 47.8 save percentage with a 13-4 record during her freshman season. She made 131 saves in 1040 minutes between the pipes and ranked second among GNAC keepers in games started (17), minutes, and wins and fourth in goals against average.
Under the watch of fifth-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis, Saint Joseph's posted a 13-4 record with an 8-1 mark in GNAC play en route to claiming the #2 seed in the conference tournament. The Monks opened postseason play with a 17-6 quarterfinal victory over #7 Norwich University on May 3rd, but the 2017 campaign came to a close with a hard-fought 11-10 loss at the hands of #6 Simmons College on May 5th.
