Lasell Topples Saint Joseph's, 16-7

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) and junior Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) combined for 11 goals and two assists Tuesday afternoon as the Lasell College women's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with a 16-7 victory over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at Grellier Field.

Yandow scored seven goals and had one assist to lead the way, while Pino contributed four goals and one assist. Pino also scored her 100th career goal in the win, and now has 102 goals in her 41 career games. Yandow is approaching a career milestone of her own with 197 goals in 67 games.

Yandow also collected a team-high eight draw controls and four ground balls. Senior Taylor Falco (Hazlet, N.J.) led the defense with two caused turnovers and a team-high five ground balls.

The Lasers wind up the regular season with a seven-game winning streak to give them a 12-3 overall record heading into the playoffs. Lasell finished in second place in the GNAC with an 8-2 record, and will host a quarterfinal playoff game this Saturday, April 28, at Grellier Field at 12 noon. The Monks had a three-game winning streak stopped to finish up at 11-4 overall and 7-3 in the GNAC, and will also host a quarterfinal game on Saturday.

Lasell took control of the game early on, scoring the first five goals of the game in the opening six minutes, including two by Yandow. The scoring went back and forth over the next 15 minutes, including Pino's 100th career goal, and the Lasers held an 8-3 advantage at the midway point of the half. Lasell outscored the visitors 3-1 over the remaining time in the first half to take an 11-4 margin into the break.

Junior Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) opened the second half scoring for Lasell and Yandow tacked on two more as the lead grew to double digits (14-4). The home team maintained a comfortable margin the rest of the way.

Junior Samantha Medlin (Kingston, Mass.) led the Monks with two goals, while senior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine) had one goal and eight draw controls.

Sophomore Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) made several big stops in the Laser goal and finished with 10 saves on 17 shots. Sophomore goalie Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) made nine saves for the Monks.
