Saint Joseph's Downed by Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three different players scored for Plymouth State Saturday afternoon as the Panthers earned their first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Saint Joseph's, at Panther Field.

The Panthers improve to 1-2-0 while the Lady Monks drop to 1-1-0. The win was the first for PSU first-year head coach Gene Smith .

The Monks struck first just six minutes into the game as freshman Megan Willette (Waterville, Maine) scored her fourth goal of the season. Plymouth State answered 12 minutes later as senior Casey Bishop (Topsham, Maine) finished a beautiful cross from junior Kelsey Macdonald (Oaks Bluffs, Mass.) to tie the score 1-1. PSU took the lead in the 3st minute as the hosts were awarded a penalty kick and senior Melissa Erwin blasted it beyond the reach of Monk keeper Morgan Meserve (Scarborough, Maine).

Plymouth State tallied an insurance goal just three minutes into the second half when sophomore Jaimee Coombs (Peabody, Mass.) finished a rebound off of a cross from Erwin.

Senior Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, VT) ended up with two saves for the Panthers while Meserve finished with six saves for the Monks. Plymouth State finished with 12-8 advantage in shots.

The Lady Monks travel on Tuesday to play at Bates (4:00 p.m.).
