STANDISH, ME - #6 Suffolk University (6-11-1, 6-5-0 GNAC) stunned #3 Saint Joseph's (15-3-1, 9-2-0 GNAC) by scoring in the sudden-victory round after 90 minutes of regulation, 20 minutes of overtime and a conventional shootout failed to determine a winner in a 1-1 deadlock.

Senior Ashley Beaulieu (Durham, Maine) scored off a rebound in the 26th minute and the Monks' 1-0 edge stood until the 71:21 mark when Suffolk senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) found the back of the net off a Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Pa.) pass, knotting the game at one-all and setting up the unforeseen drama that was about to unfold.

Saint Joseph's had a pair of outstanding opportunities to double the lead during a five-minute span partway through the second stanza. The first chance took place when sophomore Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) had an open look but clanged a kick off the crossbar at the 60-minute mark. Nearly five minutes later, an apparent SJC goal off the foot of Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) was called back due to a foul committed by the Monks near the Rams' goalmouth.

St. Joe's poured on the pressure late and rattled off three shots in the closing minutes, as two were stopped by Suffolk keeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) and the other sailed wide right.

The Monks held an 8-2 shots advantage during the pair of 10-minute overtime frames, but were unable put the game away as the match was destined to enter a shootout round.

In the traditional best-of-five shootout, Lauren Chouinard (Gorham, Maine), Danielle Daigle (Dayton, Maine) and Beaulieu converted their attempts for Saint Joseph's. Meghan McHale (Halifax, Mass.), Nicole Hunt (Weymouth, Mass.) and Brouillette scored on their bids to push the contest into a sudden-victory shootout. Saint Joseph's missed on their first try and Lisa Gambale (Swampscott, Mass.) effectively ended the marathon contest with a shot just beyond the diving attempt by Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) into the right corner of the net.

In goal, Lorenzen made seven saves while Brouillette tallied 11 stops in a contest that will go down in the record books as a 1-1 tie, PK-Away as the result. Saint Joseph's held substantial advantages in shots (31-16) and corner kicks (12-2) in the losing effort.

Suffolk will now move on to Tuesday's GNAC Semifinal round as the Rams will host #7 Simmons College. The Sharks were 3-2 winners in a shootout over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday in a tournament match that counts as a 0-0 draw.
