PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) broke a scoreless tie in the sixth overtime minute to propel Saint Joseph's College (11-2-0, 8-2-0 GNAC) past Johnson & Wales University (11-6-1, 8-2-0 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer game on Saturday.
THE LEAD
DaGraca, who clanged a shot off the crossbar in the 54th minute, found the netting at the 95:01 mark after receiving a long through pass from sophomore Brenna Smith (Maynard, Mass.).
THE KEEPERS
Saint Joseph's freshman Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) was excellent with eight saves in the shutout victory while her counterpart, JWU junior Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.), turned away four shots in the hard fought loss.
TEAM STATS
Johnson & Wales held the lead in shots (19-8), shots on goal (8-5), and corner kicks (10-2) on the afternoon.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-7-4 all time versus Johnson & Wales University and ends a five-game losing streak at the hands of the Wildcats. Today's victory is the first win at JWU in SJC women's soccer history.
