Saint Joseph's Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced on Wednesday the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients for high school and college soccer programs competing in the fall season and the Saint Joseph's College women's team is one of 104 collegiate programs across the country to be recognized for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.

Led by sixth-year Head Coach Jenelle Harris, the Monks earned a Bronze Award after being flagged for seven yellow cards in 20 contests this fall. The high honor from the United Soccer Coaches organization is the first in program history.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to United Soccer Coaches members at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow card or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.

Saint Joseph's is the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) program – men's or women's – to be honored and is one six women's teams from Maine to earn the award, as the Monks are joined by Bowdoin, Colby, University of Maine, UMaine-Farmington, and University of New England on the list of 2018 Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients.

This fall, Saint Joseph's (16-4, 10-2 GNAC) - the #2 seed in the 2018 GNAC Tournament - claimed the first GNAC Championship in program history with a 1-0 upset victory at top-seeded Lasell College on Sunday, November 25, 2018 4th. The Monks faced #12 Swarthmore College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Pennsylvania and fell to the Garnet on their home turf, 5-1, on November 10th.
